Successful meeting between Market and Shanghai Construction

On 14 January 2026, the senior leadership delegation of Shanghai Construction Group arrived in Budapest to participate in a professional conference organized by Market Építő Zrt. The purpose of the meeting was to enable the two countries’ leading general contractors – Hungary’s Market and China’s Shanghai Construction – to get to know each other in person and explore potential avenues for future cooperation.

The first professional dialogue between two construction giants

From the very beginning, the event took place in a friendly yet highly professional atmosphere. Both parties openly and honestly shared insights into their operations, achievements, and challenges. As each company is one of the most influential general contractors in its home country, the exchange of experience proved particularly valuable.

During the conference, it became clear that although Market and Shanghai Construction operate according to similar principles in many areas, several fundamental differences shape their day‑to‑day project work. In China, many processes differ from Hungarian practices:

  • the regulatory environment is different,
  • the availability of local raw materials varies,
  • the construction industry is characterized by a distinct business mindset and negotiation culture,
  • and cultural differences are also significant.

All these factors represent challenges that must be considered when implementing a potential Chinese investment in Hungary. However, both parties agreed that such differences can be bridged through effective cooperation and knowledge sharing.

Site visit to one of Market’s flagship projects

Following the conference, the professional program continued with a site visit. Representatives of Market guided the Shanghai Construction delegation through one of the company’s ongoing megaprojects: the 23‑hectare Budapart development.

During the tour, the guests were able to experience firsthand Market’s construction culture, the precision of its organizational processes, and the complexity of the project. What they saw on site further strengthened the professional interest between the parties and sparked new discussions about potential synergies.

The day concluded with a relaxed afternoon tea, providing an opportunity for more personal conversations. By this point, the guests and Market representatives were discussing not only professional topics but also cultural insights and the future of the construction industry in both countries.

A promising first step toward future cooperation

By the end of the meeting, it became clear that there is significant potential for future collaboration between the two companies. Although no specific investment decision has yet been made, the professional day in Budapest marked an important first step toward a partnership that could create substantial value in future Hungarian and Central European projects.

Market Építő Zrt. remains open to international cooperation and is committed to working with global partners who bring added value, expertise, and innovation to Hungary. The visit of Shanghai Construction to Budapest can be seen as the beginning of a promising new chapter.
