The renovation of the Hungaroring represents a true milestone in the history of Hungarian motorsport and construction expertise. The consortium formed by Market Építő Zrt. and Bayer Construct Zrt. has been working on the full reconstruction of the circuit since the end of 2023, with completion planned in 2026, across three phases. The challenge lies not only in the technical tasks required across the entire track, but also in ensuring that construction works are continuously coordinated with the racing calendar.
The investment is being delivered in multiple phases. The first phase lasts until May 2024, after which construction pauses for the racing season. The second phase continues until the 2025 Grand Prix, ensuring that the circuit remains fully operational and capable of hosting drivers and spectators without disruption during both the 2024 and 2025 Hungarian Grands Prix. The third and final phase will be completed in 2026, with the aim of presenting the fully renewed circuit in time for its 40th anniversary.
Since the beginning of the renovation, numerous significant milestones have been reached, which we have regularly shared across our social media platforms. These milestones well illustrate how the project is unfolding and demonstrate the expertise underpinning the renewal of the circuit.
A Weekend Dedicated to the Hungaroring
The 40th Hungarian Grand Prix was not only a celebration of racing, but also a milestone in the history of the Hungaroring – and a moment of great pride for us. The renewed circuit was widely praised in professional articles, reports and posts throughout the media.
During the first phase of the project, the main building, the main grandstand and the paddock area were renewed, and two new pedestrian tunnels were constructed. The quality and significance of our work is well reflected in the words of Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, who remarked during his site visit:
“Build the way the Hungarians do.”
6 Weeks Until Hungary Hosts Its 40th F1 Grand Prix
The largest transformation in the history of the Hungaroring will be completed next spring, yet its impact is already striking: the new main building and grandstand were introduced to the public this week. The figures speak for themselves: more than 10,000 grandstand seats, 41,000 m³ of concrete, 426 km of high-voltage cabling, two 22 kV substations, a bespoke 5G infrastructure and over 7,800 installed luminaires.link
International Recognition for the Hungaroring Development
Representatives of the International Mobile Federation and Formula 1 teams recently visited the Hungaroring in person and expressed strong appreciation for the infrastructural improvements as well as the quality and standard of the construction works. Based on their evaluation, the circuit is now positioned to stand among the world’s leading venues. link
Protective Cover Removed from the Main Straight
Another significant milestone has been reached in the reconstruction of the Formula 1 circuit, delivered jointly with Bayer Construct: the protective cover has been removed from the main straight. With this, we are another step closer to unveiling the final form of the legendary track, ready to welcome the world’s best drivers to the Hungarian Grand Prix grid.
Ahead of Schedule
During this morning’s press conference, it was announced that the renovation is progressing faster than anticipated. According to Chairman and CEO Zsolt Gyulay, the venue for the Hungarian Grand Prix is already ahead of the planned schedule. link
Every Day Brings Us Closer to the Goal
More than 1,000 specialists work daily to ensure that the 40th Hungarian Grand Prix can take place at a world-class venue. Garage doors have now been installed in the pit lane, electrical works are ongoing, the roof structure of the main grandstand has been positioned and its covering has begun. Noise barriers and mechanical systems are being installed, and only three tower cranes remain on site – all of which are scheduled to be dismantled by the end of March. link
Progress at Formula 1 Pace
Commitment, precision and teamwork drive the Market Építő Zrt. team in the redevelopment of the Hungaroring. Working in consortium with Bayer Construct, approximately 900 specialists are on site each day to ensure everything is perfect for the 40th Hungarian Grand Prix. The installation of the roof’s steel structure has reached 600 tonnes, the tunnel structure has been completed, and full-speed progress continues across all areas of construction.
First Roof Section Installed at the Hungaroring
Work continues at full pace on the renewed Hungaroring, where another milestone has been achieved: the first section of the main grandstand roof structure has been installed. The entire heavy steel structure:
- weighs 1,300 tonnes,
- consists of 21 sections,
- will be fully installed within four months,
- and is lifted into place by a 650-tonne mobile crane. link
Work Continues Following the 2024 Race
The Hungaroring is undergoing remarkable transformation: after the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, renovation works continued, and at present some 620 people are working daily to ensure that, come the August race, the Hungarian circuit can once again welcome the Formula 1 field at its accustomed high standard. Around the track, 22 km of protective piping and 80 km of liner pipes have been installed, accommodating 20 km of high-voltage cabling.

A metal capsule decorated with a national ribbon was placed by Gergely Gulyás, Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office, and Zsolt Gyulay, Chairman and CEO of Hungaroring Sport Zrt. link
Tens of Thousands of Cubic Metres of Concrete and Earth Moved
Structural works are ongoing on both the paddock area and the main grandstand until the end of January – with 564 people working tirelessly each day at Hungary’s iconic Formula 1 circuit. In recent months, the contractor has incorporated 20,885 cubic metres of concrete and 4,793 tonnes of reinforcing steel into the two buildings. An extraordinary volume of earth has been moved: 99,800 cubic metres during excavation works, and a further 33,875 cubic metres during embankment construction.
Ten Tower Cranes at the Hungaroring
The second phase of the redevelopment is progressing at a strong pace: since this year’s Hungarian Grand Prix, the contractor’s teams have drilled 641 piles for the foundations of the paddock building and 730 piles for the main grandstand. Currently, 470 people are working on Hungary’s largest sports facility on a daily basis, a number expected to exceed one thousand in due course.
Demolition of the Legendary Millennium Tower
A milestone moment at the Hungaroring: the demolition of the iconic Millennium Tower has begun. This construction marks not only a new chapter in the history of the circuit, but also opens the opportunity to welcome motorsport enthusiasts in the future with even more modern, world-class facilities. We are proud to be part of this major project, representing the renewal of one of Hungary’s most recognisable sporting venues.
Completion of the First Phase of the Renovation
The Hungaroring will present a renewed face to the Formula 1 paddock at the end of July, as the first phase of works has now been completed, bringing striking changes to the paddock and the spectator areas behind the main grandstand.
Construction and Demolition Go Hand in Hand
The first stage of the second phase of the renovation is nearing its end: four cranes have already been dismantled, the widening of the depot, the construction of tunnels and retaining walls, and waterproofing have been completed. Current works include road surface restoration and cleaning, kerbing and asphalting, as well as the installation of the irrigation and electrical networks.
The First On-Site Press Conference
Although we are still at the early stages of the project, its remarkable scale is already evident:
- 22 kilometres of piles have been installed,
- 8,000 cubic metres of concrete have been placed,
- and, in addition, 65,000 cubic metres of earth have already been moved.
Among the unique challenges of the project is that the construction, scheduled to continue until 2026, must pause twice: during the 2024 and 2025 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix weekends, works must be suspended to ensure the race can proceed without disruption.
Work in Full Swing at the Hungaroring.
Under the consortium of Market Építő Zrt. and Bayer Construct Zrt., the paddock, depot, main grandstand and event areas of the Hungarian Formula 1 circuit are being renewed. To illustrate the Formula 1 pace, here are a few figures from the start at the end of December to the present:
- 20,000 cubic metres of earth have been moved;
- 5,000 cubic metres of concrete have been demolished;
- 800 piles have been drilled;
- 345,348 kg of reinforcing steel has been delivered to the Hungaroring circuit;
- and the first tower crane has been erected.
Government Resolution Marks the Start of Phase Two of the Hungaroring Development.
The consortium of Market Építő Zrt. and Bayer Construct Zrt. won the tender in fierce competition for the works. The project includes the renewal of the 10,000-seat main grandstand, the main building and the paddock, as well as the construction of two pedestrian tunnels at the venue of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The aim is to replace the existing main building with a modern, economically operable facility that fully meets professional sporting requirements. link
