GKN Automotive Hungary’s new site was developed as a greenfield investment in Felsőzsolca, near Miskolc, to supply components for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Suzuki and Volkswagen. The facility comprises a production and logistics hall, an office building and an engineering centre, which is also used for development and testing purposes. The plant plays a key role in the company’s portfolio, being responsible for the production of drive shafts, and its capacity has been designed with long-term expansion in mind to include components for electric vehicles.

Market Építő Zrt. participated in the project as general contractor. We carried out the full construction process, including earthworks, construction of monolithic reinforced-concrete structures, erection of steel structures, and all internal and external architectural works for the production and logistics halls. Key priorities throughout the build included structural stability, the optimal arrangement of logistics spaces, and the integration of cutting-edge industrial and engineering equipment.

Outstanding technical features of the complex include long-span halls, flexible internal layouts within the production buildings, loading and storage areas optimised for logistics processes, and development and testing facilities within the engineering centre. Throughout the works, particular emphasis was placed on sustainability, energy efficiency and strict compliance with health-and-safety requirements.

The new plant started its operations in October 2023, with Market’s construction ensuring that the facility was completed on time, in line with high technical standards, and will serve the region’s automotive needs in the long run.
