Under the construction by Market Építő Zrt., this development specifically intended to deliver a nationally recognised, innovative, inspiring and future-oriented new campus for Corvinus University of Budapest. The campus development was managed by the Maecenas Universitatis Corvini Foundation, which maintains the building. The vision for the content of the development was created through a process known as community design.

The most important aspect in the design of the building was to maintain the educational and dormitory functions. The aim of the owner and commissioning foundation was to create a modern, comfortable university space suitable for community life, which would support creative collaboration through innovative solutions. Scandinavian examples were used as inspiration for the design of the communal spaces.

The project comprised two parts: the content planning was the responsibility of the University’s “Ménesi Campus Development Inner World Project”, with input from students, academic staff and university colleagues responsible for some of the University’s strategic and operational tasks – ensuring that the perspectives of future users of the building were integrated. The Project was also supported by a team of external experts. And the architectural development has turned what the Inner World Project envisioned into reality.

The Gellért Campus has become an integral part of the cityscape, with open spaces and green areas that harmonise with the natural environment of Gellért Hill, while at the same time being close to the university.

Architectural and construction highlights

The building of the College of Public Administration, built in 1978, has been partially retained and its original structure has been given a new function in the modern campus.

Behind the new glazed lobby, there are now two "towers", named J = Jövő (Future) and K = Közösség (Community) – one for educational and the other for dormitory function.

It has become Hungary's most sustainable educational building: LEED Gold certified with an AA+ energy efficiency rating.

Power is supplied via photovoltaic panels and 86 ground source heat pumps, supplemented by additional heat pump units. Automated shading, motion sensor lighting and green roofs complete the system.

Between 82% and 100% of demolition and construction waste is collected selectively for recycling.

A retro 1970s network switchboard remains in the Data Hub to support data analysis and visualisation – symbolically linking past and present.
