Origo Studios is one of Hungary’s and Central Europe’s foremost film production centres, providing world-class infrastructure for both domestic and international productions. Its carefully composed architectural concept – developed by Benczúr & Partners Architects – meets the highest demands of the modern film industry, balancing functionality with architectural clarity. The complex was completed in 2010, by Market Építő Zrt. as general contractor.
A key design principle for the studio complex – based on plans by Benczúr & Partners Építész Iroda – was the clear spatial separation of different functions while maintaining well-organised, logical and efficient connectivity between the particular units.
The sound stages are single-aisle, large-span, single-storey hall structures designed to meet stringent acoustic, fire-safety and functional requirements. Their construction employs precast reinforced concrete columns and beams, coupled with steel trussed roof girders, with thermally and acoustically insulated envelope layers and trapezoidal metal roofing. The interior spaces are highly adaptable, accommodating a wide variety of set-building requirements.
The head buildings are ground floor plus two storeys, with layouts optimised for production workflows. Dressing rooms, technical spaces and storage areas occupy the ground floor, while offices and meeting rooms are located on the upper levels. Mechanical systems housed on the roof are screened by acoustic barriers.
The central office and post-production building forms the architectural focal point of the complex. Its L-shaped mass opens towards the inner courtyard and the lake with prominent glazed surfaces and an angled main façade. A balanced interplay of rendered and glazed surfaces defines the elevation, while the interiors are characterised by clarity and practicality, featuring polished concrete, carpeted floors and a neutral colour palette. A rooftop events terrace extends from the offices above the restaurant, offering panoramic views across the lake and creating a distinctive atmosphere.
The workshop and storage buildings are arranged in a systematic sequence, following a clear functional logic – from carpentry, metal and set-construction workshops to storage for scenery, costumes and lighting equipment. The structure is designed to allow for future expansion.
