MOME UP is the Knowledge Centre of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), one of the most important and impressive buildings on campus. The building is designed to support the research, teaching and innovation activities of the University and houses the Graduate School, the Library, the Applications Office, and the International and Brand Offices. An important consideration during construction was to ensure that the large-scale development would fit in with the free-standing development in the area. The pavilion design was retained and, in addition, the weight of the new masses was lightened by a variety of means.

The exterior of the building is clad in U-shaped, sandblasted, cast glass panels. The MOME UP block becomes airy due to the secondary façade made of U-shaped cast glass, and splits along the connecting corridor. This design expands the already large cubic space and at the same time designates its own entrance

On the ground floor of the building, which covers an area of more than 6,000 m², a 650 m² library has been created, with space for almost 1,800 linear metres of books. In addition, the Knowledge Centre has 35 offices and 3 meeting rooms, which house the doctoral school of the University.

Architectural and construction highlights

The main underground traffic axis starting from the building does not hit the solid wall of the MOME Base, instead extends into the park's sloping section via a glass wall.

The building is divided into two wings connected by glass bridges.

The exterior covering of the building pays homage to Moholy-Nagy's artistic legacy, as U-shaped glass panels draw inspiration from the artist's well-known experiments with light.

The Knowledge Centre has the most exciting and striking façade elements of the building complex.

The building houses the Innovation Centre, as well as the Doctoral School, the Grants Office, the IP Point, the library and the Budapest Design Material Library.
