The MET Arena, formerly known as Alba Arena, is a large-scale investment project involving the construction of a hall with a capacity of 6,000 people, which can be expanded to accommodate 2,250 people on the playing field. In addition to hosting ice hockey matches, the hall, which was handed over in 2024, is also suitable for other indoor sports, as well as lectures, fairs, concerts and sporting events serving the needs of Székesfehérvár and its surroundings.
Earthworks began in November 2021 on the outskirts of the city, next to Budai út in Székesfehérvár, for the construction of the MET Arena. In addition to the construction of a multifunctional event and sports hall as part of the Modern Cities Programme, the investment also involved a major road network development, as a direct connection was established between the Alba Industrial Zone and Budai Road.
Viewed from above, the MET Arena is a 120 × 120 metre sports hall. We drilled nearly six kilometres of piles into the ground for the pile foundation. We used nearly 20,000 m3 of concrete and more than 2,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel in the monolithic structures. Finally, the building was covered with more than 14,000 m2 of sheet metal.
The facility is primarily a sports hall, built specifically for ice hockey events. Its multifunctionality is due to the permanent ice cover in the hall, which provides a playing surface that meets international standards for all other popular sports. The hall is connected to other spaces that are not related to sports but provide multifunctionality (restaurants, offices, meeting rooms, multifunctional rooms).
