A new aluminium recycling plant for Hydro Extrusion Hungary Kft. has been completed in Székesfehérvár, with an annual production capacity of 90,000 tonnes of recycled aluminium, primarily serving the premium automotive segment.
The facility covers a floor area of 20,000 m², which includes a three-storey office building of 400 m² per floor. During the nearly two-year construction period, one of the biggest challenges was the construction of the casting pits. The deepest point of these pits lies 14 metres below ground level, requiring an additional 12 metres of steel casing pipe to be installed. To manage groundwater conditions, a diaphragm wall was constructed. The work had to be carried out under tight deadlines, involving the careful coordination of multiple subcontractors.
We performed the following extensive tasks during the execution
In addition to consumer aluminium waste, the plant also processes scrap generated during manufacturing processes, meaning that the production of recycled aluminium accounts for only 5% of the energy required for original manufacturing. The investment has created 80 new jobs in the area.
Hydro’s plant in Székesfehérvár is one of Europe’s most modern aluminium processing facilities, with six presses, state-of-the-art surface finish technologies and more than 300 machine tools.
One of the greatest challenges of the project was indeed the construction of the casting pits: their deepest point extends 14 metres underground, necessitating 12 metres of additional steel pipe pressing. The installation of the diaphragm wall for groundwater control, combined with the strict scheduling and parallel operations of subcontractors, required a high level of technical expertise and project management precision.
