For years, the logistics needs of airlines arriving and departing from Liszt Ferenc International Airport were met by a lightweight industrial building and a connecting corridor in Terminal 2A. However, in early 2019, the Pier 1 passenger terminal, which satisfies the highest passenger demands and is of particular importance for the country’s image, was handed over in two phases. The construction of all parts of the building was completed in record time, in exactly 339 days.

The complex was built on the airport’s apron, a huge sloping concrete area. The project has resulted in a 21st-century building that meets the needs of modern air travel and represents a new milestone in the infrastructural and architectural development of Hungarian aviation.

The single-storey passenger pier, with a ceiling height of 5.2 metres, is characterised by wooden beams and large glass surfaces that give the space a unique and pleasant atmosphere.

Architectural and construction highlights

The 120-meter-long Pier 1 seamlessly connects to Terminal 2A.

The new facility can accommodate up to 5,000 passengers at a time.

Pier 1 also has three high-capacity toilet blocks and a smoking terrace.

The waiting areas have a total of 2,500 seats and 580 USB ports.

Flight information is displayed on 149 FIDS monitors and is announced through 145 speakers in the public address system.

Construction was completed in record time, in just 339 days, and was ready for the start of the summer travel season.
